Training & Certification Programs
Our comprehensive training programs include everything needed to train our k9/handler teams. The K9/handler teams are regularly exposed to real life simulations with numerous distractions during their training. The relationships we have fostered in the community and with the law enforcement agencies all over the United States allows us to use off-site facilities for tactical work, in-state or out of state.
The numerous buildings, vehicles and structures we have on-site, make it possible to conduct narcotics detection, building searches, and apprehension scenario training.
Our pristine wooded 20-acre property makes for excellent tracking/trailing. All our foundation training is done on site, and it then progresses to rural settings, before exposure to suburban or urban settings for additional and more complex scenarios. The different terrains, ground surfaces, and wildlife distractions on site offer the best possible training grounds for tracking/trailing training.
Our police service K9 training programs have Obedience as the foundation for all the training that is done. Obedience training is a MUST through all our police service K9 training. Obedience training instills a strong handler/K9 bond that develops into a very strong relationship of TRUST. Dependable obedience in a service dog is the foundation for all other training. In today’s world, especially in the heat of the moment, absolute obedience is a must in order to control a very highly motivated k9. All foundation work is done on leash, and advanced obedience work requires the k9 to be off-leash in every situation. Our programs include training for both handler and dog individually or as teams. Handlers receive extensive practical training to prepare them for the critical roles of a police service K9 handler.
Some of the areas we cover are listed below:
- K9 training philosophy

NARC K9 OBEDIENCE
Police service K9 training programs all have obedience as the foundation for all the training that is done. Dependable obedience is critical. All obedience training is done using the following five step approach: TEACH, TRAIN, CORRECT, MOTIVATE, PROOF.
Fairness, patience and the handler's ability to totally focus on the task at hand, are the keys to training and getting the most out of one's k9. Asking a k9 to give more than it is genetically gifted to do is not only unfair, but unreasonable and will end up frustrating the handler and ruining the dog. As intense as our training programs are at NARC K9, we get great results because we take what a k9 brings to the table and use it to get what we need from the k9. Obedience training not only builds a strong handler/K9 relationship but also builds a strong work ethic that enables the dog to shine through all the police service K9 certification requirements. Dependable obedience training makes it possible for the k9 handler to have the necessary control that is a MUST in today's police service K9/handler world. The main reason for the numerous problems that police service K9 handlers have on the streets can be attributed to poor obedience training, and a shaky relationship between the service dog and his handler. K9 handlers that go through our program, leave with a full understanding of the need for off-leash control of the k9 in all working simulations and all environments.
NARC K9 supplies k9s for training from our inventory of suitable k9s, however, our clients bring their own k9s, if they are suitable for the intended training. The k9s that are brought are thoroughly tested and screened prior to any formal training.
